Will Your State Create a Health Insurance Exchange? – Part 1

Technically speaking, all states will have a health insurance exchange in 2014. It is simply a matter of if your state will make their own, or, if your state will have the federal government make one for them. Here is a quick review of what I have learned so far about what individual states have decided to do. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley promised, in May of 2012, to veto any bill that would enable Alabama to begin working on a state run exchange. Alabama has received funding from a planning grant and from a Level One Establishment grant to create … Continue reading

Obamacare Upheld

You certainly cannot avoid the latest news unless you are TV-less, radio-less, Internet-less, and friendless. This morning, the Supreme Court approved a key part of President Obama’s healthcare reform law be a ruling of 5 to 4. The official name is the Affordable Care Act (ACA), but most usually refer to it Obamacare. This means that by 2014, all Americans will be required to have some type of health insurance. Also included in the decision was the fact that insurers will no longer be able to deny people insurance based on a pre-existing condition and families can carry children on … Continue reading

California Replicates Health Care Reform Laws

Sometime soon, we will hear what the Supreme Court decides in regards to the Affordable Care Act. Will it be repealed? Will it be upheld? I don’t have to worry about waking up early to thaw out my car, and knock all the snow off of it, … Continue reading

The Deadline For State Exchanges Has Been Set

The exchanges are expected to be ready to go in 2014. Part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, (or ACA, or “Obamacare”), requires each state to create its own health insurance exchange. These exchanges are supposed to make it possible for Americans to find affordable health insurance plans. People who are uninsured can use the exchanges to find a health plan. People who already have health insurance can use the … Continue reading

California Insurance Exchange Getting Closer to Completion

California was one of the very first states to begin working on creating a state health insurance exchange. They are getting close to completing it. Accenture was awarded a contract by the state of California to create its website and enrollment system. In October of 2010, the Governor of California was Arnold Schwarzenegger. He signed a health care bill that included a piece of legislation that enabled the state of California to begin setting up its web-based health insurance exchange system. The state has been working on it since then. Recently, the state of California awarded a contract to Accenture. … Continue reading
